FAQ

group lessons

Is wearing a helmet compulsory in ski and snowboard courses?

There is no legal requirement to wear a helmet. However, we recommend wearing a helmet for safety reasons during lessons!

In which languages are the courses offered?

Lessons are generally held in German or English. Other languages such as Dutch, Russian, etc. are available on request, but cannot be guaranteed.

What is the double ski school offer?

During busy holiday periods, we offer two different start, lunch, and end times for group lessons. When purchasing tickets, guests can decide whether they would like to start at 9.30 am or 10.30 am. This also means earlier or later lunch and end times.

Your personal benefits:

Shorter waiting times at cable cars, lifts, depots, and sports shops.

Less stress at meeting points, when dividing into groups, and when picking up.

A relaxed lunch for kids with a gourmet experience in our two restaurants „STAR- & MURMLIREST“

Is it still possible to change the group course from 9.30 am to 10.30 am or vice versa after booking?

That's no problem. Simply take the course ticket with the “wrong time” to the meeting point at the desired time. It is advisable to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early. We also recommend only changing the time for the first day of skiing, because as soon as the time is changed, you will automatically be moved to a different group.

Is it possible to join a group course every day?

Skiing:

Children up to the age of 12 can join a group course at any time, regardless of their skiing ability.

Teenagers (aged 13 and over) and adult skiers who can ski independently and confidently on blue slopes can also join a group course every day. They will then be assigned to an existing group.

Group courses for teenagers and adults who are complete beginners start on Sundays or Wednesdays. On Wednesdays, however, they only start at 10.30 am.

Snowboarding:

Children, teenagers, and adult snowboarders who can independently and safely master a blue slope can also join a group course every day. They will then be assigned to an existing group.

Group courses for children, teenagers, and adult total beginners start on Sundays or Wednesdays. On Wednesdays, however, only at 10.30 am.

How many people are needed to form a group?

A group is formed with at least 4 participants. If there are fewer than 4 people, it is possible to combine groups.

Are there always places available in group courses?

There are no restrictions on the number of participants in our group courses, so there are always places available. This means that it is not necessary to reserve a place in a group course in advance.

Is it necessary to book group courses in advance?

There are no restrictions on the number of participants in our group courses, so it is not necessary to reserve a place in advance.

Group courses can be booked either directly on site at the ski school office at the valley station of the cable car or at our ski school office at the Komperdell mountain station. Of course, it is also possible to book group courses online via our website and pay immediately by credit card.

What is the advantage of booking tickets for the group course in advance?

If group courses are booked in advance in our Onlineshop  you will receive a confirmation with an attachment via email. With this course confirmation, you can go directly to the meeting point on the first day of the course and do not need to purchase a course ticket at one of our offices.

Is there also a class on Saturday?

There are no group courses on Saturdays.
Private courses are available at any time upon request, including Saturdays.

Do the booked group course days have to be consecutive?

Each ticket is marked with the booked date, and these days always follow each other.

Once the ticket is extended (after at least 3 or more days), you are free to choose the day of the lesson and also take a day off. However, it makes sense to redeem the days consecutively, as the learning program builds on each day. If the children/adults skip a day, this could result in them falling behind in the course and having to change groups.

Does it make a difference in terms of price if I book a 3-day course first or a 6-day course immediately?

If you buy the discount ticket for 6 consecutive days right at the beginning, you get a significant price advantage.

The next cheapest option is to buy the first 3 days together (these must be consecutive). If you buy the first 3 days individually (day by day), it is more expensive.

From the 4th day onwards (after 3 course days have been purchased per person), the extension price will be charged for each additional day.

Is there a price difference if I book online?

Generally speaking, no.
If you wish to extend your lessons, it is cheaper to book on site, as extension tickets are not available online.

Is it possible for children/adults to book only half a day of group lessons?

We only offer half-day courses (2 hours) for 3-year-old complete beginners in Team Fiona. You can choose between the Kinderschneealm at 2000m or the Murmlipark in the village (above the church). Lessons at the Murmlipark in the village are only available on a half-day basis, from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm.

All other group courses (from age 4 and/or from Team Ingo) are only offered as full-day courses (4 hours) at the Komperdell mountain station at 2000m.

Can I take my child out of the group course in the afternoon, or can I skip the group course in the afternoon?

This is possible, but the price remains the same. It is also advisable to participate for the full 4 hours, as the learning success is designed for 4 hours per day. In addition, the group would have to be changed in the afternoon after repeated absences, as the group is constantly improving.

Why don't you offer half-day courses for older children/adults?

The Serfaus Ski School's many years of experience have shown that learning success is significantly greater with 4 hours than with 2 hours. The entire concept/learning program of the ski school has been designed for 4 hours of instruction.

From what age can children attend a ski or snowboard course?

Children aged 3 and above can attend group skiing lessons. Children aged 5 and above can participate in group snowboarding lessons, provided that they have the appropriate snowboarding equipment.
Children under the age of 3 can book private skiing lessons. Children under the age of 5 can book private snowboarding lessons, provided that they have the appropriate equipment.

Who is eligible for the trial card (Schnupperkarte)?

We offer the trial ticket (Schnupperkarte) for children who are complete beginners. If the children enjoy skiing, the ticket can easily be extended at the office. This ticket can only be purchased once for the first day of skiing.

How does the trial day work?

The trial day is a normal 4-hour group lesson during which children can try out the course and see if they like it. For 3-year-olds, this allows us to determine whether 4 hours is manageable for them or whether a 2-hour course is sufficient.

What is the Snowstar program?

The Snowstar Programm  is a special training program for teaching advanced children up to the age of 12. (Prerequisite: ability to ski independently and confidently on blue slopes). Children are divided into the following performance levels: Young Stars, Cool Stars, and Super Stars!

In all 3 modules, additional focus is placed on four training topics: skiing technique, freestyle, safety, and racing.

Is there a race?

The ski race takes place on Friday mornings. The final race is part of the lessons. A valid lesson ticket for Friday is required for this. Children who do not wish to actively participate in the ski race have the opportunity to watch. Lessons take place as normal before and after the race.

GROUP CLASSIFICATION

Which group should I book for my child?

Team Fiona: Complete beginners aged 3 to 12
Team Ingo: Children who can brake using the snowplow technique
Team Bruno: Children who can brake and turn a little
Snowstars: Children who can ski down blue slopes independently and safely
Jugend: Children aged 13 and over (complete beginners or advanced)

When and where will the group courses be assigned?

The main allocation always takes place on Sundays from 10.00 am at the respective meeting points during less busy holiday periods. During the double ski school offer, allocation begins on Sunday at 9.00 am at the respective meeting points. We therefore ask you to arrive at the meeting point 15 to 30 minutes prior to the start of the lessons.

How are children and adults divided into groups?

When purchasing the ticket, a group will already be decided upon.

Children:
Children who have already been to the Serfaus Ski School once will receive a performance pass from us (“Murmli Friends Pass,” “Star ID,” “Snowboard Pass”). This is a pass in which the snow sports instructor stamps and notes what the child has learned. This pass is used to determine the group and classify the child according to their skiing ability.
If the children have never been to the Serfaus Ski School before, the group can be determined by asking specific questions.

Adults:
Adults are divided into individual groups by asking specific questions.

Is it a problem if I have selected or booked the incorrect group/skill level?

No. If you are assigned to the wrong group, you can easily switch to a suitable group. You do not need to change your ticket.

What happens if my child/I am better than the group?

As soon as an individual's level becomes better or worse than that of the entire group, they can switch to a correspondingly better or lower group after consultation with the snow sports instructor and the area manager. You do not need a new ticket to make the change. The change is made with the same ticket.

Is it possible for our children to be placed in the same class?

Group assignments take place at our ski school at the Komperdell mountain station at the respective meeting points. Assignments are primarily based on the children's skiing ability and age. If your children or their friends are at roughly the same level, it is no problem at all for them to be assigned to the same group. However, we ask that you indicate this request at the meeting point when the groups are being formed. If the children do not have the same level but still want to ski together in one group, the child with the higher level will have to take the weaker child into consideration and ski in the weaker group.

What is the difference between the Murmlipark in the village and the Kinderschneealm at 2000m?

At Murmlipark in the village, we offer half-day courses from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm for 3-year-old beginners only, without lunch.

The Kinderschneealm at 2000m is much larger and there is a daily entertainment program with Murmli and his friends. Lessons there are available for half or full days!

PRIVATE LESSONS

How far in advance do we need to book a private instructor?

The motto here is: the earlier, the better! During the holiday periods, we would definitely recommend booking private lessons in advance via our unsere Homepage .Of course, last-minute bookings are also possible at our local offices, subject to availability.

Do private rates always apply to one person?

No. The private rates quoted always apply to 1-2 people. We charge a supplement for additional people. There is a special family offer. This charges for two people and the remaining immediate family members (parents, children, siblings) can ski free of charge.

Are there also courses for 2-year-old children?

Private lessons can be booked for children under 3 years of age. Group lessons are not available for children under 3 years of age.

In which languages are the courses offered?

Lessons are generally held in German or English. Other languages such as Dutch, Russian, etc. are available on request, but cannot be guaranteed.

Is wearing a helmet mandatory in private lessons?

There is no legal requirement to wear a helmet. However, we recommend wearing a helmet to ensure safety during lessons.

LUNCHTIME SUPERVISION

Does my child have to eat with the group?

The Schlemmererlebnis is optional and can be decided on a daily basis. However, it is recommended that children accompany the group and the ski instructor. During this hour, the children have a great time together in the ski group, make friends, and strengthen the group dynamic.

Do we have to book the “Schlemmererlebnis” for lunchtime every day?

Lunch supervision is optional and can be booked individually for each day. Tickets can be purchased either spontaneously on the day of the lesson or on any other day. Tickets for the gourmet experience are tied to a specific date.

The  Schlemmererlebnis includes childcare and a choice of menu (Bulli or Yeti menu) including drinks. The menus were created especially by children.

The gourmet experience is only offered during lessons at Komperdell 2000m. No gourmet experience is offered for ski lessons at Murmlipark in the village.

Where does lunchtime supervision for children and youth take place?

Lunch supervision takes place in the two children's restaurants, „Murmli- und Starrest“ Depending on the group assignment, lunch will be spent in one of the two restaurants.

If your child has any food allergies or intolerances, please inform your ski instructor before the course begins. If your child is vegetarian, a vegetarian alternative can also be requested from the ski instructor.

CANCELLATION AND BOOKING TERMS AND CONDITIONS

How do I cancel the ski course in case of illness or injury?

If you wish to cancel the course due to illness or injury, this is of course no problem upon presentation of a medical certificate. It is best to cancel the course in person at one of our ski school offices, if possible. To do so, you will need to present the medical certificate and the course ticket or meal ticket to be canceled. The difference can only be refunded after these documents have been presented.

Will I always get a full refund?

If the ski course is canceled before the start of the first day of instruction, the entire amount can be refunded.

If the ski course has already started, only the difference for the days not yet used can be refunded. Each day started counts as a full day. We therefore do not refund full or half course days that have only been used for half the time.

Will I get my money back if my child doesn't like the ski school?

In principle, it is not possible to cancel a course.

To keep this “risk” as low as possible, our ski school offers several options, such as a trial card for the first day or discounted extension days.

If, contrary to expectations, it still does not work out, we have the option of rebooking your course as a private course within the Serfaus Ski School. In this case, the difference for the remaining course days will be credited.

Is the ski pass included in the ski school prices?

Ski passes are not included in the ski school prices and must be purchased separately from the cable car operator. Information can be found at www.serfaus-fiss-ladis.at.

Is equipment included in the ski school prices?

No. Sports equipment must be rented or purchased independently of the ski school.
